Amusing old Postcards -you need to click on them to see them properly

Most of you won't know this, but Pete likes collecting things.... and he has a small collection of old postcards which he adds to if he finds something 'local'. I thought you might like to see a couple of the amusing ones.
This is an example of snail rail!

I actually meant to post about the fact that the Moot Hall is now open for business again, but to warn any of you coming to Keswick by car to expect diversions everywhere because they are digging up Bank Street and a couple of others. These are on the one way system and they have had to block the roads off to traffic, so its complicated getting about unless you know the back streets. One way round it is to travel on the bypass I suppose. Anyway, if you do come don't say I didn't warn you.

Right now for another of those postcards, I am not sure I would want to stay at the Hotel on the left.....

Oh by the way, most of the walks have been decided on now so I will start to make sense of it all at the weekend with a bit of help from Pete about the grades etc. So I will attempt to post as many as I can on this blog first, simply because its quicker than the website, then I will put them on the website next. I hope to have the job done as soon as I can.

Hi Lyn, do you know ~why~ they are digging up the road and why it is going to take 12 weeks (that's what the signs said last week when I came in). I imagine it is total chaos on the back route leading to Station Road?

Bureaucrats don't need a reason - I suspect because they are flush with money this year and have to spend it, so why not dig up most of Keswick? afterall Easter and the weeks around it are a good time to cause total disruption and misery and ruin business and trade....

Reminds me of an old Goon Show quote - "Digging up roads plan for congesting traffic scheme" (or something like that!). Pretty ridiculus - it's amusing watching drivers speeding down St John's Street, then suddenly realising there's a tight bend by the Lodge + the added bonus of a narrow bit of road by the George! Oh, and that there are other drivers coming the other way!
Look forward to reading the walks programme - may even join you guys over the Easter period, if relatives don't have chance to pop round.
Love the postcards - thinks, which street is the Golden Fleas hotel in?! Plus the fact that it has Keswick as a village - this place is just slightly larger than the village I lived in for donkey's years.

The postcards make me laugh - the dig ups are shocking me, quite a lot. Just got last week's Reminder. Should I dare to come to Keswick anyway? Is it possible to survive?
