A Cumbrian Way 2015

Last Year, 2014 expedition at Greenburn Mine.

A Cumbrian Way...Tuesday 30 June to Friday 3 July.

This year Pete and Lyn's expedition will be a four day high-level walk across Cumbria from the sea in the S. to Caldbeck in the north of the county. This is not the "Cumbria Way" of the guidebook, it is rather Pete's own Cumbrian Way, taking a high-level route across the tops of the fells rather than one down along the paths of the valley bottoms. There will be three overnight stays, two in Coniston and one in Keswick, transport and other organisational details will be arranged by ourselves. Only a day sack needs to be carried on the walks.

Tuesday 30/6...Day 1.

Transport by Minibus will be arranged early am. from Keswick to the starting point in the S. Lakes. The day's walk will terminate in Coniston where we stay overnight. Accommodation in Coniston is plentiful but early booking is recommended.
Only a day rucksack is required as the Minibus will deliver overnight bags to our Coniston accommodation.

Wednesday 1/7...Day 2.

The day's walk, from Coniston, will finish in Langdale from where transport will be arranged back to Coniston where we stay for a second night and enjoy a meal together at one of the town's fine dining establishments.

Thursday 2/7...Day 3.

Transport will take us back to our finishing point of yesterday and continue with our overnight bags to our accommodation in Keswick, where Day 3's walk terminates.

Friday 3/7...Day 4.

After a jolly evening together in Keswick the day's walk takes us over the Northern Fells to Caldbeck, our ultimate destination. From here return to Keswick will be arranged by Minibus.

Below are some images of the route taken by Pete in November 2014

Keswick Mountain Festival 2015

Feb 3rd View from Cat Bells looking W. to Hindscarth and Robinson.

Keswick Mountain Festival 14-17 May 2015.

KR Guided Walks KMF Programme.

Thursday 14/5 ...Haystacks
Friday 15/5     ...Great Gable
Saturday 16/5 ...Cat Bells
Sunday 17/5   ...Buttermere to Keswick, 6 Wainwright Tops.

Cat Bells is truly a hill for all seasons, here you see it at its best on a bright crisp winter morning in February. Pete has put Cat Bells on the programme for the Keswick Mountain Festival this year on the Saturday... 16/5.

Rising to1481ft /451m Cat Bells repays with interest the modest effort of the climb, the views are truly spectacular in all directions. Access on the day to the hill will be by launch across Derwent Water to Hause End. Ascent will be the "quiet way" along the track from Skelgill and up through the old workings to Hause Gate where astonishing views open out over the lake far below; it's an easy amble from there to the summit, join Pete for a great day out at the KMF.

Catbells in the snow

We went up Catbells on Tuesday and the views were stunning as usual, but even better with the hard packed snow and  contrasting blue sky above.  See what I mean.

Lots of other people had the same idea and when we arrived at the top it was evident that they had taken the best seats out of the wind, lucky hikers.

The views from the top were terrific because the air was so clear.

Going down the front it was very iced up so it was on with the crampons and away we went. No photos of the descent though because we had to look where we were going.

Just updated Keswick Rambles Website

Hi I just updated our website for the coming season and uploaded a few more photos.

As I write Pete and Bella are out enjoying the sunshine this sunny Sunday which is the way we like it.  Blencathra is still covered with a lovely dusting of white snow which I can see from the conservatory windows and it was on Boxing Day that we were last stood on its summit.
On the summit

Heading down
Pete was out guiding yesterday with a couple of lasses from London who came up with their tiny puppy called Fabio, so Iris and Tiffany if you are looking at this blog, send us a couple of photos as Pete forgot to take any.
